At the beginning of most years, I set an intent for the year ahead. One word that will focus my energy and guide me.

My word for 2024 was Adventure – referring to both having ‘adventures’ and remembering that life is an adventure. My intent was to approach work and play with a sense of adventure, have fun, be playful and stretch my boundaries.

The year kicked off with a three-week family holiday in New Zealand, many other adventures followed, some planned and others not!

What I didn’t know at the beginning of 2024 was that a massive amount of courage would be needed – more courage than I have needed for the last decade. Courage in my personal life, in my career, and in my most important relationships. It was a big year – a very big year!

This year, I would like more adventure – adventures that challenge me, and also have a sense of calm and flow…

So my word for 2025 is FlowVenture – Adventure with a sense of ease!

‘Ease’ doesn’t mean backing down or taking the easy way. For me this year, this means:

  • Choosing a sense of fun, and having the grace to let go of angst
  • Being clear on what’s most important to me, personally and professionally
  • Setting quarterly, monthly and weekly priorities, and having the discipline to move these along (and the willingness to let other stuff go)
  • Asking for help from my support crew
  • Putting my health and welfare at the top of my list
  • Creatively answering the question ‘What could this look like if it flowed with ease?’
  • Pausing and breathing – then taking action. Saying ‘yes’ or ‘no’ and moving on!
  • Remaining curious and remembering what I teach – ‘curiosity is the antidote to judgement’
  • Enjoying all the adventures that come my way
  • Celebrating the success of those around me, and delighting in their adventures – big and small

What’s your one-word for this year? Questions that may work better for you might be ‘what is your intent for the year?’ or ’what does this 2025 represent for you?’.

I would love to hear your thoughts and intent for 2025, so please hit ‘reply’ and let me know.

PS Bart likes the idea of FlowVenture too. (He’s not keen on anything that feels like hard work!) This picture is us in flow before one of our January adventures!
