Last week, during Leaders Who Ask training, I witnessed a shift that got me genuinely excited.
At the end of the session, one leader reflected that her biggest insight was this: ‘I’ve been seeing my role as delivering tasks, driving projects, and ensuring outcomes. Today I realised—my real job is to develop others to do that.’
Yes! That’s the pivot. That’s the magic.
Because leadership isn’t what you do – it’s who you grow.
It’s easy – especially for high-performing leaders – to stay focused on delivery. To jump in, get it done, and move on. But when we lead like that, we cap our team’s growth… And we limit our own impact.
Leaders Who Ask build capability. They stretch others, grow trust, and create more leaders.
That reflection made my day. Because it tells me she’s already shifting from driver to developer – and that shift changes everything.
How about you? Are you leading the work? Or are you growing the people who will lead the work? What does that mean for how you show up tomorrow?
